Mygrations is both the title of an artwork and the final chapter of my PhD exegesis submitted in 1999 at the Australian National University. This is an adaptation of that chapter. I've been rewriting it for several years, although I'm not sure why.
Mygrations is a large collaged wall map, measuring 373 x 457 x 13 centimetres. I made it straddling 1998-99 and it took almost 3 months to make. This text commences by reflexively considering the completed work in my PhD exhibition in February 1999 at the Canberra Museum and Gallery. The text then tracks back in time through the processes of making the map and the various personal, cultural and political contexts that underpin its creation.
